Ladies Scratch Win Division Three at County Finals Day
Dramatic fight back for the Ladies Scratch Team –
County Golf Holidays Direct Finals Day Sunday 12 October – East Herts Golf Club
In this event the winning teams in each of the leagues in Hertfordshire play against each other to determine the overall Division Champions.
Letchworth by winning their group had already secured promotion to Division 2 which was fabulous. In the Finals Day, Letchworth played against Brocket Hall. After a couple of last-minute changes, the team comprised of Esther Strous, Anne Coulter, Tracey Culliford, Nicky Turner and Geraldine Marsh. Debbie Sheard, Scratch Captain came along with other Letchworth members to provide their support.
The team set out on a sunny Sunday afternoon, after the first 9 holes the team were down in all but one match.
The first two matches saw Esther manage a 2 & 1 win and Anne unfortunately having to concede after injury on the 15th hole. Leaving the scores tied at 1-1.
The most amazing comeback was from the Vice Captain, Tracey, who was 5 down with 5 to play. Having won the 14th & 15th she teed up on the 16th hole only 3 down and on some great winning momentum. Reaching the 18th hole all square was an incredible feat. Rules of the day were that all matches needed to have a result therefore Tracey had to continue down the 19th hole after eventually securing the win on the 20th hole. Incredible!
Nicky had a close fought match but unfortunately lost 2 & 1 on the 17th hole.
Scores were now 2-2. Nail biting stuff for those watching.
Geraldine also had a brilliant last few holes, she found herself 4 down with 5 to play and got it to all square by the 18. To force more extra holes. The second sudden death match in which Geraldine claimed the 1st playoff hole by sinking a stonking putt to get the team their 3rd required point to win.
An incredible team effort on the day but also, throughout the season by all the squad players.
The team is promoted to Division Two for the 2026 season and will play clubs Moor Park, West Herts, Brickendon Grange and Essendon B. All the best!
