Ethan Akpan shoots 68 (-3) to win Herts Salver event played at his home club of Letchworth
The annual Men's Herts Salver event took place Saturday, 3rd May, at Letchworth GC. This event has always been kindly sponsored by the Society of Hertfordshire Golf Captains and as such is always played at the home club of the current Captain of the Society, for 2025 our very own Nick Brookes of Letchworth GC.
The event saw a full field playing 18 holes medal strokeplay, with the top 17 gross scores on the day earning the right to join the exempt players at the Men's County Championship strokeplay stage, played later this month at Berkhamsted GC.
Conditions on the day were testing, the recent dry weather meant a firm golf course, and the cool, overcast and breezy climate gave the competitors much to consider.
Best score on the day was a superb gross 68 (-3) from Ethan Akpan (LGC), obviously using his course knowledge to good effect. Ethan won the Salver competition by 4 shots from his nearest rivals, former County Champion Alex Collman of Ashridge & former Mid Age Champion David Jackson of Hadley Wood, both on 72 (+1). Alex would pip David to the runner-up spot by virtue of a better last hole on card countback.
The qualifying score was via a card countback on 77 (+6).
Congratulations to Ethan on a great win and to our others members Johnathan Conlon and Ryan Conlon who also qualified for the County Championships.
